Parents shut school gates over 1 teacher for 125 students.
Citing the growing number of students, parents have been pleading with the District Education Department to approve the hiring of additional teachers for the school.
Jogulamba Gadwal: Parents in the district's Ogulonipally hamlet, under the Dharoor mandal, shut the school's gates on Monday in protest, calling for more teachers for the government school where they were sending their kids.
The Government Primary School, which offers courses from I to V, had about 125 enrolled students. But the school has only had two teachers on staff, one of whom is the Head Master.
Citing the growing number of students, parents have been pleading with officials in the District Education Department to approve the hiring of additional teachers for the school. The Head Master Damodar Goud has reportedly been missing from work for the past three months, which has made the situation worse.
Officials from the Education Department were made aware of the problem on a few occasions in the past, and a request was made to assign a different instructor to the school, but nothing was done.
Since then, Chiranjeevi Naidu, the school's lone instructor, has been running the classes. However, parents are incensed with the Education Department, questioning how one teacher could instruct over 125 pupils in several classrooms.
