At the Daren Sammy International Stadium in St. Lucia, during their Group C match of the T20 World Cup 2024 versus Afghanistan, the West Indies team broke numerous records. The record for most runs scored in an over in Twenty20 Internationals was tied by the dynamic duo of Nicholas Pooran and Johnson Charles. In the first innings, Pooran hit 36 runs in an over for the West Indies against Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan. When Azmatullah entered the field to bowl the fourth over of the innings, this took place.

Pooran didn't waste any time, hitting the bowler for a six with the opening ball. Pooran hammered it for a boundary after Azmatullah followed it up with a no ball. Even though Pooran was bowled out, the pressure mounted on the bowler because it was a free shot. After the onslaught, Azmatullah gave up four more runs for leg byes, making the bowlers appear tired. When the Afghan bowler was removed for a four and then two more sixes, Pooran was not in a good mood. This meant that West Indies scored the biggest powerplay in the T20 World Cup history—93 runs—off of just one over, or 36 runs per over. During Omarzai's over, there were ten extras—five wides, one no-ball, and four leg-bye runs. WI vs AFG.
