Robert Lewandowski is looking forward to his "sentimental" return to Germany for Euro 2024, where he played for a long time before joining Barcelona. The 35-year-old Polish striker, who won ten Bundesliga titles between 2010 and 2022, made a lasting impression at both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Lewandowski became the second-highest goal scorer in Bundesliga history with 312 goals in 384 appearances, behind only Bayern icon Gerd Mueller. Lewandowski also won the Champions League with Bayern in 2020.
Along with Mueller, he holds the record for the most Bundesliga top scorer awards with seven.
Lewandowski said to Polish TV station TVN, "For me it is already sentimental, you could say a return to the country where I spent many years, where I lived, and where I also played in these stadiums."
He stated that he will arrive "with a positive attitude and with a smile on my face and also with such appreciation of where I am not just in life, also in my career" .
But Poland, who narrowly defeated Wales on penalties in the play-offs to secure a spot in Europe, will have a difficult battle in Germany.
They have also had to deal with a quickly changing leadership, having had five different coaches in the previous three years.
The attempt to get a foreign coach was a complete failure, as Fernando Santos—who guided Portugal to victory at Euro 2016—was fired in September of last year following a dismal qualification campaign.
inner tranquility
Since then, Michal Probierz has taken over as leader, and he continues to have hope for Poland.
We wish to do more than merely take a tour there. We want to compete in a top-notch competition, break away from the group, and battle for something greater," he remarked.
The Bialoczerwoni (White-red) face France on June 25, Austria on June 21, and the Netherlands on June 16. It's going to be a difficult Group D.
Poland, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the continental event in 2016, will be participating for the fifth time in a row.
Lewandowski participated in the previous three tournaments, netting four goals in 11 games; in contrast, his 82 goals in 148 international games made him the all-time top scorer in Polish history.
He's expecting for something different from the next Euro.
"I have changed my approach to these big tournaments a bit, because I'm aware of the high expectations and that there will be pressure," Lewandowski stated.
The team's "positive power" was also commended by him.
"I am confident in stating that there is a terrific vibe and chemistry present, and we appear to be conscious of what we are doing and what a fantastic tournament is in store for us.

"I personally have this inner peace, because I can see that it works well, the training really looks nice, and the way the boys approach training, there is nothing to complain about."
