Woman switches off ex-husband's life support after affair

In retaliation for her husband's infidelity, a Chinese woman turned off her life support. The 38-year-old guy had left his wife and was living with his mistress while he was still married, according to a South China Morning Post report.

The man, from the Liaoning province of China, was taken to the hospital after experiencing a cerebral hemorrhage at his mistress's house. He was brought into the critical care unit. Doctors found that the woman who had brought the man to the hospital had vanished, though, and they were unable to secure her permission for operation.

A second woman entered the hospital in the meantime, claiming to be the man's wife. She was informed by a doctor with the last name Chen that her husband's condition was critical. His odds of surviving a procedure were slim because he had fallen into a coma.

She was also informed that he would not be able to survive much longer on life support and that the cost of surgery was unaffordable.

In response, the wife claimed that her spouse had been unfaithful to her for more than ten years. He had no affections for her and did not give her any financial support. She didn't love him at all.

She requested the doctors to turn off her husband's life support and refused to sign the consent form. It's unclear if the man's other family members were consulted or if they were present at the hospital.

Chinese law requires surgeons to get the patient's next-of-kin's written consent and to explain the dangers of surgery to them.

On Chinese social media, the wife's choice to remove the life-sustaining tracheal tube provoked a contentious discussion.

She lacks compassion. Giving up treatment is always equivalent to giving up a life, as one user put it on Douyin. "Your spouse will be by your side till you are elderly. Another person retorted, "Treating your wife well is treating yourself well."
