Morne Morkel of South Africa to lead Team India's bowling unit?
Former Indian pacers Zaheer Khan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Vinay Kumar are also competing; coach Gambhir approaches BCCI to request a nod.
Delhi, New: According to a source, former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel is reportedly in the running to be India's bowling coach after head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed BCCI about include him in his support staff team.
According to the Cricbuzz report, Gambhir is said to have asked the BCCI to take Morkel under consideration for the role of bowling coach. According to the report, Morkel has been called over the same. Morkel was Pakistan's bowling coach at the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The former pacer represented South Africa in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is between 2006 and 2018. Morkel and Gambhir previously worked together at the Lucknow Super Giants, where the former opener for India served as the team's two-year mentor.
In the previous edition, Morkel remained the team's bowling coach under new head coach Justin Langer, while Gambhir became a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders and finally led them to victory after a ten-year break.
