Kerala School Students Need To Get The Required Minimum Scores To Be Announced Advanced: Authorities

Thiruvananthapuram: Keralan schoolchildren must now achieve a minimum grade requirement in every topic in order to advance to the next higher class. This is because the government decided on Wednesday to introduce a "subject minimum" system for examinations across a range of subjects.

As part of initiatives to raise academic standards, the new method would be implemented in schools that follow the state curriculum, according to a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The minimum mark system was implemented by the Vijayan government in response to criticism of the state school system's educational quality and its push against the idea of promoting all pupils to higher classes.

According to a CMO statement, the subject minimum will be introduced in Class 8 in the 2024–2025 academic year, in Classes 8 and 9 in the 2025–2026 academic year, and in Classes 8, 9, and 10 in the 2026–2027 academic year.

The CMO stated that a program aimed at raising academic standards in grades 1 through 10 would be developed as a first step, with public engagement.

It further stated that this is the initial step in putting into practice the suggestions made at a recent educational conclave held here with the goal of creating initiatives to raise the caliber of the public education system.
