"If there is even 0.001% negligence...," the SC notifies the NTA and the Center over NEET.
Medical applicants have accused the NEET exam administration of malpractices.
In response to complaints claiming paper leaks and irregularities in the administration of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sent notifications to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central government.
In the midst of the serious accusations that have led to protests from parents and prospective medical students, the supreme court noted that even a small mistake had to be taken seriously.
The primary admission test in India for the medical and related disciplines of study is called NEET. Every year, the exam is administered by the National Testing Agency.
The court ordered the NTA and Center to receive notifications, stating that even a 0.001 percent carelessness must be fully addressed.
The Supreme Court notes that "if there is 0.001% negligence on the part of anyone, it should be thoroughly dealt with."
The court further noted that it cannot overlook the effort that applicants to medical schools put up to get ready for one of the most difficult entrance exams in the nation.
According to ANI, the court noted, "Children have prepared for the exams; we cannot forget their labor."
The NTA was informed by Justice Vikram Nath that the Supreme Court anticipates prompt response from it.
"Let us hear the petitions on July 8," he stated.
On May 5, the NEET-UG exam was given in 4,750 locations throughout 571 Indian cities. On June 4, the results were announced.
Nevertheless, following the announcement of the results, parents and educators had concerns regarding the grace marks granted to 1,563 pupils.
The agency informed the Supreme Court earlier this month that it was canceling the scorecards of individuals who received grace marks after it spiraled out of control into a massive issue involving political parties sniping at one another.
It further stated that these students would be permitted to retake the exam on June 23 and that the results would be released prior to June 30.
Later, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declared that if NTA staff were found to have engaged in anomalies in the administration of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the government will take severe action against them.
"The Supreme Court's recommendations have led to the order for 1,563 candidates to be retested. Two locations have revealed some anomalies. Pradhan had told ANI, "I assure parents and students that the government has taken this seriously."
A group of twenty prospective doctors filed a case with the Supreme judicial earlier this month, requesting that the 2024 entrance exam be abolished and that the CBI or other impartial authorities conduct an investigation into the purported irregularities under judicial supervision.
According to the plea, 67 pupils received 720 out of 720 points.
"The aforesaid material irregularities are required to be investigated thoroughly by CBI or by any other independent agency or committee under the supervision of this court so as to do justice to the large number of meritorious students whose claims have been defeated by systemic failure to ensure conduct of fair examination," it stated.
