Weather Forecast in Shimla
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecasted rain in certain areas of mid-hills from May 31 to June 2, and in seven districts. A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh over the next three days.
Relief from Heatwave
Residents in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Shimla, found relief from the heatwave as light rain occurred in the mid and higher hills on Thursday. This led to a slight decrease of one to two degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures in some places.
Rainfall Statistics
Rainfall measurements indicate that Manali received 10 mm of rain, Keylong saw 5 mm, Kalpa recorded 3 mm, while Shimla, Bhuntar, and Sainj received 2 mm, 1 mm, and 1 mm of rain respectively.
Weather Conditions Elsewhere
While there wasn't a significant change in minimum night temperatures, severe heatwave conditions are expected in various regions including Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Odisha, and Punjab, among others, on May 31, 2024.
Monsoon Arrival
In contrast, monsoon arrived in Kerala and most parts of northeast India on Thursday. The southwest Monsoon set in over Kerala and Mahe and advanced into most parts of northeast India, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Assam. Cyclone Remal seems to have influenced this development.
