IIT Delhi Launches STEM Mentorship Programme For School Girls
New Delhi:
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has introduced the third batch of its STEM Mentorship Programme for high school girls in Classes 9 and 11. This program aims to inspire and empower young girls to explore careers in STEM fields.
The institute selected 100 promising students from over 200 applications from Delhi Government Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools (Delhi-NCR region), and private schools. The candidates were chosen through a rigorous selection process.
The STEM Mentorship Program will take place in three phases. The “summer phase,” from May 14–24, 2024, includes a 9-day workshop featuring expert lectures, lab demonstrations, and hands-on problem-solving sessions. A Maker Space workshop at IIT Delhi will also give students practical experience with DIY projects.
The second phase, “At the School,” will occur monthly on Saturdays from July to November 2024. Participants will join the Sci-Tech Spins lecture series and interact with IIT Delhi students to enhance their learning.
The program will end with the “Winter phase” in January 2025, featuring lectures on leadership in STEM, entrepreneurship, and interactions with successful IIT Delhi alumni.
Comments:
The first batch of 10 girls started in December 2021. The second batch, consisting of 32 schoolgirls, successfully completed the program in June 2023, under the guidance of IIT Delhi’s Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives.
