On Thursday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who resigned from the sport after being disqualified from the Olympics, will be honored as a medallist by the state. The chief minister referred to Phogat as a "champion" and declared that she will get all the honors and benefits that the Haryana government bestows upon an Olympic silver medallist.

"Vinesh Phogat, our courageous daughter from Haryana, performed outstandingly and advanced to the Olympic finals." She might not have been able to compete in the Olympic final due to certain circumstances, but she still represents all of us as a champion.According to the decision made by our government, Vinesh Phogat will be greeted and honored like a medalist. In a post on X (previously known as Twitter), CM Saini stated in Hindi, "All the respect, rewards, and facilities that the Haryana government gives to the Olympic silver medalist will be gratefully given to Vinesh Phogat as well."

"We are proud of you, Vinesh," he continued.

Notably, the Haryana government provides ₹six crore to Olympic gold medallists, ₹four crore to silver medallists, and ₹2.5 crore to bronze medal winners as per its sports policy.

Resignation is announced by Vinesh Phogat

After defeating Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba 5-0 in the semifinals on Tuesday night, Phogat was scheduled to face Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States for the gold medal match. She was disqualified on Wednesday, though, as it was discovered that she was 100 grams overweight during the required weigh-in.

Phogat announced earlier in the day that she was ending her career as an international wrestler because she lacked the strength to go on.

On social media, she declared her retirement from wrestling, writing: "Mother wrestling prevailed over me, I lost... Both my bravery and your ambitions are crushed. I've used up all of my strength. Wrestling: Farewell, 2001–2024. I have you all to my eternal gratitude. Please pardon me.
