US-India Ties: A Deep Dive into Common Vision and Values!

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin said on Saturday that US-India relations are built on shared vision and values, and their momentum will not just continue but increase. Austin's comments were in response to a representative's question at the Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual defense summit in Singapore.

He mentioned that the current relationship with India is as good as or better than ever. The US and India are co-developing armored vehicles, with significant progress made on the project. US-India relations are based on shared vision and values, and Austin believes this momentum will not just continue but will gain speed.

In his address on the Indo-Pacific region, Austin said that along with regional partners, they are breaking down national barriers and better integrating their defense industries. He assured that America will continue to play a vital role in the Indo-Pacific. The Indo-Pacific region includes the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean, including the South China Sea. China claims almost all of the South China Sea, but Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, and Vietnam also claim parts of it.

The US, India, and several other global powers have stressed the need to ensure a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific in light of China's growing military assertiveness in the resource-rich area. Austin also informed representatives that the US defense industry is integrating with regional countries, including Japan. Together, they are investing in capabilities that promote lasting security and stability, ensuring the Indo-Pacific remains secure. He emphasized that the US maintains a presence in the region and will continue investing as part of its commitment to allies and partners.
