Tamil Nadu: Vijay's TVK, nicknamed "Thalapathy," would not run in the Vikravandi bypoll

Chennai: Tamil film actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced on Tuesday that it would not run in the July 10 Vikravandi by-election instead focusing on serving the people until the 2026 Assembly elections.

In the interim, the TVK will not run for office in any elections, including local body elections, and it will not endorse any candidate in the by-election. An official announcement published here stated, "This decision has been made under the directive of our party president Vijay."

"In his inauguration speech on February 2, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam President Thalapathy Vijay defined our party's political stance in detail. The party's inaugural State conference will feature the unveiling of the party's policies, tenets, and programs, as per the statement.

Thus, in order to get ready for the 2026 Assembly elections, the party would work on internal structural growth and public outreach throughout Tamil Nadu. It stated, "To serve the people, our primary objective is to contest and win the 2026 election."

As a result, we formally declare that, for the time being, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam will not run in any elections, including those for local government. The party declared that it would not support any party and would not take part in the Vikravandi Assembly by-election.
