On Friday, Air India announced that regulatory approvals had been received for a rescue flight from Mumbai to Krasnoyarsk, Russia, where 19 people from a flight to San Francisco and 225 passengers were stuck. Three senior officials and an interpreter are in Krasnoyarsk to help the passengers, according to the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
The passengers of an Air India flight to San Francisco that made an emergency landing at Krasnoyarsk last night are being assisted by a team of three senior officials from the Embassy who are on the ground in Krasnoyarsk, according to the embassy.
The statement said, "To give the travelers every help possible, the crew is working with the airport, security, and Russian Foreign Ministry Representative. Until Air India's replacement aircraft comes and transports the passengers on their next destination, the team will remain grounded in Krasnoyarsk.

An Air India flight on the same route was forced to detour to the isolated Russian town of Magadan due to technical issues in a similar occurrence that occurred the previous year.
At the time, there were 16 crew members and 216 passengers on board the Boeing 777-200 LR. After that, the passengers were moved to temporary quarters in a school, where they spent the next two days.
A replacement aircraft was then dispatched from Mumbai with food and other necessities. The passengers were later flown to San Francisco by boat.
