Delhi, New: In response to May's inflation statistics, the Congress attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, claiming the PM had no answers for the "crisis."

The opposition party's claim coincided with government statistics that was made public a day earlier and showed that, as a result of a slight drop in food basket prices, retail inflation continued its downward trend, reaching a one-year low of 4.75 percent in May.

The National Statistical Office (NSO) published data showing that, in May, the food basket's inflation rate was 8.69 percent, a slight decrease from 8.70 percent in April.

"Toh mehengai hai, modi hai! For four months, the inflation in food prices has exceeded 8.5%. With prices jumping 17.14% in May, pulses have experienced over 10% inflation for the entire year, according to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on X.


"We proposed two remedies in the Congress Nyay Patra to address price increases, specifically for pulses: a legal guarantee of MSP for pulses, with the price set by the Swaminathan Commission's formula. This would have encouraged farmers to cultivate pulses domestically because they would now have a guaranteed market and price," the speaker stated.
